Milky Change goes Dublin... find out what shocked us the most.

On the morning of the Dublin concert, we took a closer look at beautiful Phoenix Park in the city center and learned some very interesting, as well as some shocking things.
  • On February 2nd, we met with Ellie, a trainer from Leave no Trace Ireland and Margaret, a member of the Office of Public Works of Phoenix Park to learn about the environmental importance of this site. Our lovely morning in the park included a tour with the park rangers, educating ourselves on the parks’ history in the visitor center and seeing some of the parks wildlife (from a safe distance of course).

  • Deer love chocolate?!

This huge park isn’t only home to the presidential residence and the city’s zoo but plays a vital role for the ecological biodiversity of the region overall, supporting 50% of the mammal species and 40% of bird species found in Ireland. A large herd of fallow deer being the most impressive to see running around the park without restriction, which comes with downfalls as well. Leave no Trace and OPW are joining forces to educate the public on how to respectfully treat those animals, which isn’t always easy. Feeding the deer Coca Cola and chocolate doesn’t seem to be abnormal to some people unfortunately! This was a reminder of how important building awareness is for the protection of wildlife and nature overall.

  • The shocker

A playful and fun way of learning about the traces we leave behind, was shared with us by Ellie from Leave no Trace. We got to solve a puzzle about decomposition times of different objects we might find left outdoors, like nappies and plastic bottles.
This was also where we learned a shocking fact: Did you know that on average, we all eat about a credit cards worth of plastic every week?! Crazy right?
